Warrior Camp

At the end of the summer the Nakoda Taoma~ki~the Program runs a four day Wesley Men’s Warrior Camp. The camp is for men between the ages of 29 and 60 years old.

The focus of the camp is on rekindling the forgotten warrior spirit of the Nakoda People. As Nakoda people we were once great warriors of the Plains and well respected by other nations of the Plains and abroad. Since the signing of Treaty 7 the warriors of our nation have been trying to adjust to their new and different roles oulined under Treaty 7 and the Indian Act.

These new diminished roles have not fit well with men in the nation and thus their self-esteem has been detrimentally affected. This effect has trickled down to through the generations. We now have a colonized view of what our role as men is.

The Wesley warrior camp teaches traditional values and recognises the important role that men played in Nakoda society.

The Wesley Nation will be holding its Warrior Camp from September 8-11, 2011 for men age 29-60
